Bus, car collision sends 3 to hospital
Portion of Defense Road closes as crew clean up
PETERSBURG — Police were called to the scene of an accident between a bus and a passenger vehicle at Johnson and Defense Roads shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday.
According to Petersburg Bureau of Police Sgt. Matthew Gilstrap, the bus was carrying nine kids from a private after school program when the two vehicles made contact. Decals on the bus indicated the vehicle was operated by The Outreach Foundation, a Petersburgbased behavioral and mental health services provider.
The passenger vehicle, a white Dodge Neon, was reportedly carrying three individuals.
Gilstrap estimated three or four of the children were transported to the hospital as a precaution, and a human resources representative of The Outreach Foundation confirmed that multiple children
were transported “for precautionary reasons.”
Police temporarily blocked off a portion of Defense Road as the investigation continued. Gilstrap estimated the road would reopen around 5 p.m.
