C-SPAN to cover Pam­plin sym­po­sium live

PETERS­BURG — Pam­plin His­tor­i­cal Park & The Na­tional Mu­seum of the Civil War Sol­dier is host­ing their an­nual sym­po­sium on Oct. 20-22, 2017 and will be fea­tured on C-SPAN’s Amer­i­can His­tory TV. C-SPAN will be cov­er­ing the Satur­day and Sun­day por­tion of the 2017 Pam­plin His­tor­i­cal Park Sym­po­sium live and Fri­day will be recorded to be aired at a later date. Satur­day’s speak­ers are sched­uled from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. while Sun­day’s speak­ers are from 9 a.m. to noon with a speaker’s round ta­ble fo­rum from 1 to 2 p.m.

This year’s an­nual sym­po­sium, spon­sored by the Bank of South­side Vir­ginia, brings to­gether seven out­stand­ing and na­tion­ally rec­og­nized schol­ars to dis­cuss top­ics sur­round­ing con­tro­ver­sial and con­tentious Civil War gen­er­als.

The sym­po­sium takes place Fri­day even­ing through Sun­day af­ter­noon and reser­va­tions are re­quired. Space is still avail­able for the Fri­day $79 op­tional tour or the $40 op­tional Speaker’s Din­ner and reser­va­tions are re­quired.

The fea­tured speak­ers are: Steve En­gle of Florida At­lantic Univer­sity, A. Wilson Greene, for­merly of Pam­plin His­tor­i­cal Park & The Na­tional Mu­seum of the Civil War Sol­dier, John Hen­nessey of Fred­er­icks­burg & Spot­syl­va­nia Na­tional Mil­i­tary Park, Sam Hood from Hunt­ing­ton, West Vir­ginia, Brian Jor­dan of Sam Hous­ton State Univer­sity, Ge­orge C. Rable of the Univer­sity of Alabama, Craig Sy­monds of the United States Naval Academy.

The Park has hosted an an­nual sym­po­sium for 20 years and the top­ics change from one sym­po­sium to the next. More in­for­ma­tion on the sym­po­sium and other spe­cial events can be found at www.pam­plin­park.org.
