Suspect wounded after robbery, chase
MIDLOTHIAN – An armed robbery and vehicle pursuit ended Wednesday when the suspect was shot by a police officer and taken to an area hospital.
The Chesterfield County Police Department said officers responded around 2:30 p.m. to the Argent Federal Credit Union branch on Walmart Way near the village of Midlothian for a report of a robbery. Investigators said the suspect had displayed a firearm and demanded money, then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect was described as a white male with red hair and a beard, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap.
Officers spotted a vehicle driven by a man matching the description and tried to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop, and officers gave pursuit, which ended in a field in the 9400 block of Midlothian Turnpike where the suspect fled on foot into nearby woods.
Officers pursued the suspect on foot and ordered him to stop. Police said the suspect displayed a weapon, and one officer fired his weapon and hit the suspect. Officers then secured the suspect, gave first aid and brought him out of the woods. He was then taken to an unspecified area hospital.
The suspect’s identity has not been released, and the investigation is continuing. Anyone who has information is asked to call police at 748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 748-0660.
