ADLEAN V.H. THORPE
Mrs. Adlean V. Hayes Thorpe, 90, of Dinwiddie County, Va., passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2017. She was born February 4, 1927, to Pauline O. Henderson Walker and Alexander Hayes. Adlean retired from Southside Virginia Training Center after 28 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie W. Thorpe, Sr.; two sons, James M. Thorpe and Frank W. Thorpe; parents, Pauline O. Henderson Walker and Alexander Hayes; stepfather, Alpheus Walker; one brother, Eljah E. Walker; son-in-law, SGT (Ret) Auburn Jackson, Jr.
Mrs. Thorpe is survived by eight children, Mary M. Jackson of Petersburg, Va., Blanche M. Arnold (John) of Dinwiddie, Va.; Rev. Dr. Pauline O. Clarke (Deacon Cardwell Clarke) of Petersburg, Va., Tommie W. Thorpe, Jr. of Petersburg, Va., Gale P. Winfield (Floyd) of South Chesterfield, Va., Frances V. Burns and Cecelia L. Thorpe, both of North Chesterfield, Va., and Pamela R. Thorpe of Pensacola, Fla.; eighteen grandchildren devoted Robin D. Charity of South Chesterfield, Va.; twelve great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Joseph P. Walker of Petersburg, Va.; one niece, Louise Daniel of Oxford, N.C.; nephew, Rev. George L. Bullock of Oxford, N.C.; devoted cousins, Pauline Tonsil of Laurel, Md., and Edward Henderson and Lee Henderson, both of Dinwiddie, Va.; two devoted friends, Betty Perkins of Dinwiddie, Va., and Gertrude Tucker of Blackstone, Va.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to say thank you to her caregivers, Edna Cain, Gloria and James Taylor, Shamkia Thorpe; Milton D. Thorpe and William “Bubbie” Brown for keeping her yard beautiful; a very special thank you to Ethel Booker. The family would also like to thank doctors, nurses and staff of Encompass Hospice.
Service for Mrs. Adlean V. Thorpe will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2017, at Olive Branch Baptist Church, 11119 Boydton Plank Road, Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Dr. Kevin M. Northam, Pastor, eulogist. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
The family will assemble at 12 noon the day of the service at the church.
