Open houses at specialty centers
CHESTERFIELD — To help students and their parents learn about the variety of high school options, Chesterfield County Public Schools are hosting open houses at every specialty center and governor’s school. Students decide in eighth grade whether to apply to a specialty center or governor’s school, so middle school students and parents interested in learning more about these high school opportunities are invited to these events.
This week the following open houses are planned:
• 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, the Health Science Specialty Center at Cosby High, 14300 Fox Club Parkway, Chesterfield
• 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies, 1000 N. Lombardy St., Richmond
• 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts and Technology, 512 W. Washington St., Petersburg.
Applications for specialty centers are currently available at mychesterfieldschools. com. Applications for governor’s schools will be available starting Oct. 16 in middle school counseling offices. Dec. 1 is the deadline to apply to attend a specialty center or governor’s school for the 2018-2019 school year. Students will find out in March if they have been accepted.
