Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Lovorn, 79, of Petersburg, went to be with the Lord Satur­day, Novem­ber 11, 2017.He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Cell Roane Lovorn Sr. and Myr­tle Iris Parker Lovorn.

Rev. Dr. Lovorn re­tired af­ter 19 years as pas­tor of Mon­u­men­tal Bap­tist Church; he then com­pleted interim work be­fore as­sum­ing the pas­toral po­si­tion at God’s Store­house Bap­tist Church, where he had been serv­ing the com­mu­nity for the last 8 years. His ca­reer in­cluded pas­tor­ing churches in Mis­sis­sippi, Vir­ginia, Ten­nessee and South Carolina. He at­tended Mis­sis­sippi Col­lege, New Or­leans Bap­tist The­o­log­i­cal Sem­i­nary and Luther Rice Sem­i­nary to com­plete his Doc­tor­ate de­gree.

He served on the Board of Di­rec­tors for the Caribbean Chris­tian Cen­tre for the Deaf and was a pro­fes­sor with Rock­bridge Sem­i­nary for many years.

He is sur­vived by his wife of 50 years, Janie John­son Lovorn; daugh­ter, Christy Stawarz and hus­band, John; four grand­chil­dren, J.T. Stawarz, Micah Stawarz, Christopher Stawarz and Michaela Stawarz; brother, C. Roane Lovorn, Jr; two neph­ews; and many ex­tended fam­ily and friends.

A fu­neral ser­vice will be held at Mon­u­men­tal Bap­tist Church, 2925 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805,Thurs­day, Novem­ber 16, 2017, at 2 p.m. In­ter­ment will fol­low in Bland­ford Ceme­tery. The fam­ily will re­ceive friends at the church for 2 hours prior to the ser­vice from 12 p.m. un­til 2 p.m. In lieu of­flow­ers, do­na­tions may be made to Caribbean Chris­tian Cen­tre for the Deaf (CCCD), 100 S. Pine St., Suite283, Zee­land, MI 49464 or to God’s Store­house Bap­tist Church, 5007 Jes­sup Road, Richmond, VA 23234.
