Fri­day for the Arts! of­fers var­ied pal­ette of art, mu­sic, food, fun and more

PETERS­BURG — The Novem­ber 2018 Fri­day for the Arts! will bring mu­sic, art, fun ac­tiv­i­ties, food, new beers, and more. There will be mu­sic in ap­prox­i­mately 10 per­form­ing arts venues, and great ex­hibits at The Ward Cen­ter for Con­tem­po­rary Art, the Peters­burg Area Art League, and at the Old Towne Stu­dio 7. A paint party will be staged at The Ward, a Fam­ily Fun Night at Old Towne Stu­dio 7, and more.

The Art League will open a ma­jor ret­ro­spec­tive ex­hibit of work by Nan Jones. The Ward is con­tin­u­ing “Tex­tu­ral In­clu­sion,” an ex­panded ex­hibit of re­cent work in eggshell and paint by Sheila Mait­land Hol­land, as well as new work by Christo­pher C. Alexan­der.

In ad­di­tion, The Ward is fea­tur­ing ex­panded ex­hibits by Bon­nie Koenig, James Tim­ber­lake and Eu­gene Vango, and con­tin­ues Free­dom Wil­son’s “Just Enough Grace for You.” Other con­tin­u­ing ex­hibits at The Ward in­clude Carol Anna Meese’s “Brand New Day,” work by Bon­nie Koenig, and at least 10 other gallery ex­hibits, in­clud­ing work by Rosa­mond Casey, Bobby English Jr., Mary Mon­tague Sikes, Clifton Dick­ens, Dolly Holmes, Mark Pe­hanich, Aimee Joy­aux, Omni Wa­ters, and Terry Am­mons, as well as at least 20 res­i­dent stu­dio artists.

Old Towne Stu­dio 7 will fea­ture a new ex­hibit of work by artist-in-res­i­dence Lisa Mistry. A ret­ro­spec­tive ex­hibit of work by Ken Graves and Joe Miller, as well as books by Dr. John Lynn and Stella McCor­mack, will be shown at Abi­gail’s An­tiques.

The Ward will present a paint and sip event, “Au­tumn Trail,” led by Clifton “Gus” Dick­ens of I’ll Paint to That in the Main Gallery be­gin­ning at 6:30 p.m., for a cost. Old Towne Stu­dio 7 will present a Fam­ily Fun Night fea­tur­ing clay used for hol­i­day crafts, also at a price. Trapez­ium Brew­ing will have a pub­lic tast­ing in con­junc­tion with Mix It UP Suf­folk, fea­tur­ing a give­away of pint glasses. Crys­tal Spa will have a Fri­day for the Arts! Min­gle.

Chellezs Hunter will be per­form­ing at the Peters­burg Pub­lic Li­brary. Matt Via & The Dirty Ru­n­aways will per­form at Old Towne’s Al­ibi, Way Down South Acoustic at Longstreet’s Deli, Bobby Horne at Abi­gail’s An­tiques, the Si­na­tra-style crooner Joe LaLuna at Maria’s, key­board artist and singer Steve Brooks and pow­er­ful singer Shelly Bonet in the Mar­tini Lounge at Wabi Sabi, and One Fell Swoop in the Mu­sic Room at Wabi Sabi. Ryan Atchi­son will be play­ing the gui­tar at Old Towne Stu­dio 7. Michael Red­man will be play­ing his mel­low sax­o­phone at the City Ta­ble. Sling­shot will be per­form­ing at DJ’s Ra­jun Ca­jun, and Clan Hag­gis at Tra­monto Ris­torante. Iris Schwartz will be play­ing the so­prano recorder at the Art League. Mu­sic will be played as early as 6 p.m. and will last un­til as late as 1 a.m.

Sling­shot will be per­form­ing at DJ’s Ra­jun Ca­jun dur­ing Fri­day for the Arts! on Nov. 9.

Work by Nan Jones will be on dis­play at the Peters­burg Area Art League dur­ing Fri­day for the Arts! on Nov. 9.
