City police spokesman Capt. Daniel DeWolf said officers responded to the area of 404 River St., outside Ryan’s Wake, for a report of shots fired.

Witnesses at the scene said Andrew Melville, 25, fired one shot in the air from inside a vehicle before driving away and that an off-duty police officer called for assistance.

DeWolf said the bullet did not strike any vehicles or property and no one was injured.

Melville was quickly apprehended and charged with firstdegree reckless endangerment and unlawfully discharging a firearm.
