Peter J. Magnetto
Magnetto served in the U.S. Navy from Oct. 14, 1942, to Feb. 10, 1945, aboard the destroyer USS Nelson. He was awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded in action June 12, 1944, on Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy. He also earned the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. After he returned home, Magnetto joined the Troy Police Department, where he served for 39 years, retiring in 1984. He married the former Rose Colarusso in 1949.
Peter F. Magnetto
Magnetto is the grandson of Peter J. Magnetto amd followed in his grandfather’s footsteps. He grew up in and still lives in Troy with his wife and children. Magnetto went to Sacred Heart School, graduated from La Salle Institute, Class of 1997, and was accepted into the United States Military Academy, graduating from
West Point with the class of 2001.
He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Military Police Corps. While in the Army, he was deployed to Afghanistan with the 65th MP Co. 16th MP Brigade Airborne from December 2001 to August 2002 and was assigned to Central Command Headquarters at MacDill Air Force
Base in 2003, from where he was deployed several times to the Middle East and subsequently promoted to captain.
Magnetto was the recipient of several commendations, in addition to the Airborne Badge and the Air Assault
Badge. Upon leaving the Army in 2006, Pete entered the FBI, where he currently serves as an assistant special agent in charge. He also holds a master’s degree in international relations from Norwich University in Vermont.
