Astros’ World Series trophy will visit “The Joe”

TROY, NY » The Tri- City ValleyCats, Class A New York-Penn League affiliate of the World Series champion Houston Astros, will host the Astros’ 2017 World Series Championsh­ip trophy at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Friday, August 3.

The ValleyCats take on the Lowell Spinners at 7:00 p.m. for Boots, BBQ & Baseball Night, where the ‘Cats will pay tribute to the World Series Champion Houston Astros. A postgame fireworks extravagan­za will follow the game.

Five former ValleyCats were on the Astros World Series roster, including series MVP George Springer, American League MVP Jose Altuve, Cy Young Award winner Dallas Keuchel, Game 5 winner Joe Musgrove, and Derek Fisher who scored the winning run in that game.

The ValleyCats franchise has been affiliated with the Houston Astros since 2001, one year prior to moving from Pittsfield to Troy, and are currently their longest tenured minor league affiliate.

Individual tickets for the ValleyCats 2018 season are set to go on sale Thursday, March 29 at 10:00 a.m., coinciding with Ma-

jor League Baseball’s Opening Day. A full list of promotions will be announced on Wednesday, March 28.

Opening Night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium is set for Friday, June 15 vs. the Vermont Lake Monsters. Two days prior to the home opener, on Wednesday, June 13 the ValleyCats will host the Albany Dutchmen in an Education Day exhibition game beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Promotions already announced for the 2018 season include Youth Baseball Night on Friday, June 22, a 4th of July Celebratio­n with postgame fireworks, Irish Night on Tuesday, July 17, with a pregame concert by Hair of the Dog, and two CampDaymat­inee games (July 9, July 26) beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The ValleyCats will be giving away two MVP bobblehead­s in 2018. On Tuesday, July 24 as part of Vamos Gatos: Es Divertido Ser Un Fan / Latino Heritage Night, the first 1,500 fans will receive a bobblehead of AL MVP Jose Altuve.

On Wednesday, August

15 as part of Capital Region Baseball Heritage Night, the first 1,500 fans will receive a bobblehead of World Series MVP George Springer.

Fans can guarantee themselves a bobblehead by purchasing one of the ValleyCats mini plans, which are currently on sale. For the single-game tickets onsale on March 29, the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium Box Office will be open Thursday and Friday from 10am – 6pm, and on Saturday from 10am-2pm. The team store will also be open during those hours.
