Marino to share ‘My Inspiring Ugandan Journey’
KENT >> The Kent Memorial Library, along with Dr. Joseph Baxer, president of the United Nations Association of Connecticut, and in collaboration with New Milford resident Karen Pease Marino will hold a presentation about Marino’s inspiring journeys to Uganda. She is a volunteer from Bead for Life, an organization which helps women living in extreme poverty become selfsustaining. The program will be held Saturday, April 29 at 2 p.m. in the reading room at the library.
After two trips to Uganda, Marino has learned about the country’s generous people, the beautiful and rich natural beauty, living conditions, schooling and food. She has became friends with Ugandan women living in extreme poverty, and will share first-hand how extreme poverty affects the women and their families living there.
Along with the talk, there will be handmade recycled paper bead jewelry and organic shea products available for purchase. These items were made by Ugandan women, who will receive all proceeds. There will also be lively cultural music, and a variety of Ugandan food will be served to taste. Information on Bead for Life can be found at www.beadforlife.org.
Marino works as a Senior Art Director at Ethan Allen, and says her heart and soul now belong to the amazing women and girls she has met in Uganda. She has given numerous talks on this subject.
Baxer, a resident of Kent, will lead the program. Baxer has been engaged in the work of sustaining cultural diversity and mediating cross-cultural conflicts for 40 years.
This program is free and open to public; registration is required. For more information, call 860-927-3761 or go to kentmemoriallibrary. org. The library is located at 32 North Main Street.
