Vol­un­teers needed for Re­build Day on April 29

NEW MIL­FORD >> Re­build­ing To­gether Litch­field County will take on ma­jor home re­pairs at 12 dif­fer­ent sites on Satur­day, April 29. Vol­un­teers will meet at a cen­tral lo­ca­tion –Ed­u­ca­tion with­out Walls, 64 Rail­road St., New Mil­ford — to or­ga­nize into groups and head out to home sites.

Projects in­clude ev­ery­thing from gen­eral cleanup to re­plac­ing roofs, doors and win­dows. Skilled con­trac­tors will han­dle elec­tri­cal work and plumb­ing, while vol­un­teers will take on a wide va­ri­ety of jobs un­der the ca­pa­ble su­per­vi­sion of house cap­tains.

Re­build­ing To­gether Litch­field County is the lo­cal branch of a na­tional non­profit or­ga­ni­za­tion that pro­vides emer­gency and home mod­i­fi­ca­tion needs of older home­own­ers, or fam­i­lies with young chil­dren, who lack the means to make nec­es­sary re­pairs.

The goal of the or­ga­ni­za­tion is to help these peo­ple make their homes warm, safe and dry. Re­build­ing To­gether has do­nated thou­sands of hours, plus ma­te­ri­als, to re­pair over 200 homes in Litch­field County.

This year’s home sites are in New Mil­ford, Sher­man, New Pre­ston, Lakeville, and Wash­ing­ton De­pot. This year’s group will meet at 64 Rail­road Street at 7:45 a.m. on Satur­day, April 29, for cof­fee and dough­nuts. Vol­un­teers can build their own lunch box and then head out with a house cap­tain to a work site. More vol­un­teers are al­ways wel­come.
