Belichick scores in Branford
Patriots coach stars in Subway ad as Main Street becomes film set for a day
BRANFORD — It was championship time in town Tuesday, as New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick came to town to film a television commercial for Subway.
Belichick, who has led the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles in his 20 years as coach, drew a crowd of several dozen to Main Street, according to observers.
“They started filming first thing this morning,” said Trista Milici, executive assistant to First Selectman Jamie Cosgrove, who said a permit was not required but that Subway had filed the necessary insurance papers.
“They made arrangements with the private property owners for the two storefronts they were filming at,” Milici said. The two businesses were Denali outdoor goods, which has closed, and Ralph Ciarleglio Jewelers, which has been closed temporarily but will reopen soon.
“It’s been an exciting day in Branford today,” Milici said.
A spokeswoman for Subway Inc., the international sandwich chain based in Milford, could not be reached for comment.
