The Rio Vista Fire Department reported two separate vehicle accidents, both in the pre-dawn hours Monday, on Highway 160.

One call dispatched a crew on a report of a semi-truck striking a pedestrian, resulting in major injuries, with the other, discovered on the way to the second call, of a vehicle rollover resulting in minor injuries.

An engine crew was dispatched initially at the intersection of highways 12 and 160. An engine crew, Medic Ambulance and Chief Jeff Armstrong responded. River Delta Fire District personnel also responded.

That location was later updated by law enforcement to be Highway 160, three miles south of Highway 12.

While en route, the Rio Vista engine crew came across an unrelated crash about 1.5 miles south of Highway 12. This incident involved an overturned vehicle down an embankment. The crew called for a second ambulance and firefighter-paramedics treated a patient with minor injuries.

Armstrong and the others continued to the first scene, where units arrived with Rio Vista police officers and treated a victim suffering from major injuries. Paramedics took the injured person to an area trauma center with two firefighters aboard the ambulance assisting with patient care.

According to the Fire Department’s social media post, the early morning emergency calls “highlight the increased complexity of our ‘resource-scarce’ ” region and the increasing dangers on area highways.
