MILLERS­BURG — The Ned Smith Cen­ter for Na­ture and Art will host “Hal­loween Owls,” one of the cen­ter’s most loved an­nual ed­u­ca­tion pro­grams on Nov. 1.

Hal­loween Owls fea­tures live owls from Penn State Uni­ver­sity’s Shaver’s Creek En­vi­ron­men­tal Learn­ing Cen­ter. Ex­perts on night-time rap­tors will ex­plore the facts and shat­ter the myths about th­ese beau­ti­ful crea­tures.

Cer­ti­fied bird ban­ders from the cen­ter’s North­ern Saw-Whet Owl Band­ing Project will pro­vide owl band­ing demon­stra­tions and dis­cuss the cen­ter’s ef­fort to gather more in­for­ma­tion on the birds that mi­grate through Penn’s Woods on cold fall nights.

Fam­i­lies are in­vited to a kid-friendly pro­gram from 6 to 7:15 p.m., with a sec­ond pro­gram geared to adult au­di­ences from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Both will fea­ture live owls from Shaver’s Creek En­vi­ron­men­tal Cen­ter and owl­band­ing demon­stra­tions.

Ad­mis­sion to the pro­gram is $5 per per­son. Ned Smith Cen­ter mem­bers can use their mem­ber­ship coupons to re­ceive half-price ad­mis­sion to the pro­gram.
