APottsville band will be among the en­ter­tain­ers cel­e­brat­ing the 11th an­nual Les

Brown Big Band Week­end. The jazz event will be held April 21 to 23 in Tower City. Brown, the late band leader of the Band of Renown, hails from Rein­er­ton. Joel Guldin, Wil­liams Val­ley El­e­men­tary band di­rec­tor and one of the event’s co­or­di­na­tors, said the­week­end ac­tiv­i­ties in­clude a dance on Fri­day, mu­sic fes­ti­val on Sat­ur­day and a non­de­nom­i­na­tional mu­sic ser­vice on Sun­day.

Pottsville’s M&J Big Band kicks off the en­ter­tain­ment with three hours of big band era dance mu­sic for the Les Brown Dance. Fes­tiv­i­ties will be held from 7 to 10 p. m. today at the Tower City Amer­i­can Le­gion, 2 Clarks Val­ley Road, Tower City. Tick­ets are $ 10; avail­able at the door, or for re­serve seat­ing call 717- 926- 2849.

The cel­e­bra­tion con­tin­ues Sat­ur­day with the Les Brown Big Band Fes­ti­val from11 a. m. to 4: 30 p. m. at the Wil­liams Val­ley High School, 10300 Route 209, Tower City.

Doors open at 10: 30 a. m. and fans can en­joy the mu­sic of the big band era on- stage and in the food court. They can per­son­ally meet the mu­si­cians. Food will be avail­able to pur­chase through­out the day. Adult ad­mis­sion is $ 10 at the door; chil­dren and stu­dents ( through col­lege, with ID) are ad­mit­ted free.

Mu­si­cal groups sched­uled to ap­pear in­clude: Amer­ica’s Sweet­hearts, singing the mu­sic of the An­drews Sis­ters; The Big, Big Jazz Band of New Hol­land; The Le­banon Big Swing Band; Wil­liams Val­ley Cool Blue Jazz Band; Tulpe­hocken High School Jazz Band; Wil­liams Val­ley El­e­men­tary Rain­bow Jazz Band; Wil­liams Val­ley Alumni Jazz Band; and the Jon­estown Male Cho­rus.

On Sun­day, a Cel­e­bra­tion of Mu­sic Ser­vice will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 101 E. Wi­conisco St., Muir, with spe­cial mu­sic by Galena Brass. Or­gan­ist David Min­nich, cousin of Les Brown, will per­form the ser­vice mu­sic. This non­de­nom­i­na­tional wor­ship ser­vice will be held at 3 p. m. and is open to the pub­lic.
