Hot Po­tato 5K set to run for fifth time

Run­ners will be head­ing to He­gins Val­ley this week­end for the fifth an­nual Hot Po­tato 5K Run/FunWalk.

Hosted by Ster­man Masser Inc., the event will be­gin at 9 a. m. Satur­day at Trin­ity Lutheran Church, 1220W. Maple St., Val­ley-View. Reg­is­tra­tion will be held the day of the race, clos­ing 20 min­utes be­fore the start, or reg­is­tra­tion pack­ets can be picked up from 5 to 7 p. m. to­day at the church’s so­cial hall. Reg­is­tra­tion pack­ets will be avail­able from7 to 8: 45 a. m. Satur­day. Cost is $ 40, $ 25 for par­tic­i­pants ages 13 to 18.

All pro­ceeds fromthe event go to the Tri- Val­ley Youth Ac­tiv­i­ties Fund.

The Hot Po­tato 5K Run/ Fun Walk was es­tab­lished in 2013 to help pro­mote a healthy life­style in the com­mu­nity. Nowin its fifth year, the event has gained pop­u­lar­ity.

“It has con­tin­u­ally ( grown). We have got­ten more and more ev­ery year,” Chad Klock, TVYAF board mem­ber, said.

To help with this growth, the Tater Tot Trot was added. The mile- long race is for chil­dren up to age 12. The race be­gins at 8: 15 a. m., and the cost is $ 20. Chil­dren can par­tic­i­pate in the trot and 5K.

“We’ve had quite a bit of kids. It’s been suc­cess­ful,” Klock said.

Awards for the Hot Po­tato 5K and Tater Tot Trot will be pre­sented Satur­day. The over­all male and fe­male win­ner will re­ceive a medal, tro­phy and $ 100 gift card. The top 3 male and fe­male fin­ish­ers in the 5K age cat­e­gories will re­ceive a medal ( gold, sil­ver and bronze). The top plac­ers will also get $ 25 gift cards. The age cat­e­gories are: 12 and un­der, 13 to 19, 20 to 26, 27 to 35, 36 to 44, 45 to 54, 55 to 64, 65 to 71 and 72 and older. The top 3 boy and girl fin­ish­ers in the Trot age cat­e­gories will be given medals. Those cat­e­gories are: 5 and un­der, 6 to 7, 8 to 9 and 10 to 12.

If un­able to stay for the award pre­sen­ta­tion, prizes must be picked up at Ster­man Masser Inc., 2 Fearnot Road, Sacra­mento, be­fore July 10.
