Get all shook up
Theatre at Simon Kramer presents Elvis- inspired musical
The ActorsGuild of Schuylkill County will get audiences all shook up thisweekend. The local theater group will present “All Shook Up,” a musical comedy featuring the music of Elvis Presley, at 7 p. m. today and Saturday and 2 p. m. Sunday at the Theatre at Simon Kramer, 15 Alliance St., New Philadelphia. Tickets are $ 15 and will be available at the door or through the guild’s website at www.agosc.org.
“All Shook Up” is about life in small- town USA in the 1950s. The little town gets an unexpected visitor in a young rock ’ n’ roller who looks to incite excitement into the residents.
The musical is a fun, familyfriendly show, according to its director, Maria Malek.
“We wanted to do something that would appeal to a lot of different ages,” Malek said.
Not only will the show appeal to fans of musicals, but it should bring in fans of The King. Malek said the songs are by Elvis and although some are different arrangements, they are all recognizable. She specifically pointed out “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” the closing number of Act One, as one that will “knock the socks off people.”
“When I heard the rendition of ‘ Can’t Help Falling In Love,’ I knew that someday I wanted to do the show,” Malek said.
The cast is made up of 16 performers. Auditions were held in April and rehearsals were held for about two months.
The cast includes Sean Bennett as Chad, Tori Correll as Natalie, Jake Gillespie as Dennis, Taylor O’Brien as Sylvia, Al Miscannon as Jim, Emma Kleckner as Lorraine, Andre Delpais as Dean, Sarah Davidson- Jones as Sandra, Jessica Miller as Matilda and Tom Pat Noon as Sheriff Earl.
Malek, who also directs shows for Pottsville Area High School, said the community theater gets people fromall the neighboring communities to participate in the shows.
“It’s a great opportunity to meet newpeople and share talents,” she said.
