PGTC’s 9th show spotlights area youth talent
F ans of musicals will get a little bit of Broadway brought to them thisweekend in Pottsville.
Hosted by Pottsville Gymnastics and Theatrical Center Inc., the ninth annual Lil Bits of Broadway will be held at 3 p. m. Sunday at United Presbyterian Church, 214 Mahantongo St. Tickets are $ 15 and will be available at the door. Doors open at 2: 30 p. m. The entrance is the red door on Third Street on the left side of the church.
The show will feature about 40 young performers, including the Spotlight Kidz and alumni Taylor Brigade and Lauren Tidmore, who will serve as emcee. It will also be the final show as a member of the group for Jillian Mullin.
The group will be performing favorite songs from Broadway shows such as “Hairspray,” “The Jungle Book” and “Into the Woods.”
Pottsville GTC’s cast of “Annie, KIDS” will performa medley from the show. The group held a sold- out performance of the musical on June 30 at the Majestic Theater, Pottsville.
Other slated performers include guest singers Riley Guers and Valentina Thomas from Shenandoah Valley’s “Phantom of the Opera.” The musical took top honors at this year’s Majestic Awards. The show was directed by Sarah Yorke, who also directed the Pottsville GTC’s “Annie, KIDS.”
The show will also feature dancers from the newly established Crimson Academy for the Performing Arts, which is under the direction of Leandra Maley and Melissa Sternick. The showis under the direction of SandyKost- Sterner, with Bruce Marianelli as music director, Katrina Calvin as choreographer and Maley helping with choreography.

We have been involved with promoting the performing arts for almost 10 years and am very proud of what our Pottsville GTC programhas accomplished. The leading force behind the program is SandyKost- Sterner, who dedicates herself to these youngsters and such area programs— not just for Pottsville GTC but also other area programs,” BarbaraKost- Lonergan said.
