PGTC’s 9th show spot­lights area youth tal­ent

F ans of mu­si­cals will get a lit­tle bit of Broad­way brought to them thisweek­end in Pottsville.

Hosted by Pottsville Gym­nas­tics and The­atri­cal Cen­ter Inc., the ninth an­nual Lil Bits of Broad­way will be held at 3 p. m. Sun­day at United Pres­by­te­rian Church, 214 Ma­han­tongo St. Tick­ets are $ 15 and will be avail­able at the door. Doors open at 2: 30 p. m. The en­trance is the red door on Third Street on the left side of the church.

The show will fea­ture about 40 young per­form­ers, in­clud­ing the Spot­light Kidz and alumni Tay­lor Bri­gade and Lau­ren Tid­more, who will serve as em­cee. It will also be the fi­nal show as a mem­ber of the group for Jil­lian Mullin.

The group will be per­form­ing fa­vorite songs from Broad­way shows such as “Hair­spray,” “The Jun­gle Book” and “Into the Woods.”

Pottsville GTC’s cast of “An­nie, KIDS” will per­forma med­ley from the show. The group held a sold- out per­for­mance of the mu­si­cal on June 30 at the Ma­jes­tic The­ater, Pottsville.

Other slated per­form­ers in­clude guest singers Ri­ley Guers and Valentina Thomas from Shenan­doah Val­ley’s “Phan­tom of the Opera.” The mu­si­cal took top hon­ors at this year’s Ma­jes­tic Awards. The show was di­rected by Sarah Yorke, who also di­rected the Pottsville GTC’s “An­nie, KIDS.”

The show will also fea­ture dancers from the newly es­tab­lished Crim­son Academy for the Per­form­ing Arts, which is un­der the di­rec­tion of Le­an­dra Maley and Melissa Ster­nick. The showis un­der the di­rec­tion of SandyKost- Sterner, with Bruce Mar­i­anelli as mu­sic di­rec­tor, Ka­t­rina Calvin as chore­og­ra­pher and Maley help­ing with chore­og­ra­phy.

“Pottsville GTC is proud to con­tinue of­fer­ing qual­ity pro­grams in the per­form­ing arts for area youth. We have been in­volved with pro­mot­ing the per­form­ing arts for al­most 10 years and am very proud of what our Pottsville GTC pro­gramhas ac­com­plished. The lead­ing force be­hind the pro­gram is SandyKost- Sterner, who ded­i­cates her­self to th­ese young­sters and such area pro­grams— not just for Pottsville GTC but also other area pro­grams,” Bar­baraKost- Lon­er­gan said.
