100 years ago — 1917

Wilmer Cor­son was elected editor in chief of “Crim­son and White,” the Pottsville High School pe­ri­od­i­cal. Roland Knowles re­signed the ed­i­tor­ship ow­ing to other du­ties, among them cap­taincy of the foot­ball team, press­ing upon his time.

75 years ago — 1942

A quar­ter mil­lion dol­lars has been set as the goal of bond pur­chases when Paulette God­dard and Wil­liam Ger­gan come to this city next Fri­day for a lun­cheon to help spur sales. The­o­ret­i­cally, it is go­ing to be the most ex­pen­sive lun­cheon ever held here, but ac­tu­ally it will cost noth­ing, for the money you in­vest in war bonds to at­tend is go­ing to be re­turned to you with in­ter­est 10 years hence.

50 years ago — 1967

Joseph M. Boyle, 122 W. Sher­man St., Mca­doo, has been ap­pointed an in­struc­tor in busi­ness by the Penn­syl­va­nia State Univer­sity. Boyle will be teach­ing both twoyear and four-year busi­ness stu­dents in the 1967-68 aca­demic year.

25 years ago — 1992

Even though Eileen M. Letcher, got an ex­tra-long stay in Hawaii out of it, the Mount Car­bon woman said she does not want to re­peat her ex­pe­ri­ences on the island of Kauai. Letcher, ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor of the Pottsville YWCA, and her daugh­ter, Linda, Mah­wah, New Jersey, were va­ca­tion­ing on the island when it was rav­aged by Hur­ri­cane Iniki last week.
