Commission OKs Hegins fire rescue plan
VALLEY VIEW — The Hegins Township Planning Commission on Wednesday approved a subdivision plan for Hegins Valley Fire Rescue Inc.
The subdivision was for an annexation of property, tax parcel 13-16-0145.001. Known as “Parcel A,” it’s located beside what was formerly known as Valley View Fire Company. HVFR no longer uses the building and property in Valley View to store fire trucks.
Hegins and Valley View fire departments merged to form Hegins Valley Fire Rescue and built a facility in Hegins.
Commission members giving the nod were Robert Holzinger, Russell Richard and Justin Edling. Directors Ann Schillio, Guy Julian and Douglas Lucas were absent. Lucas was recently appointed to a seat on the township board of supervisors and could not have voted Wednesday, had he attended.
Tyler Starr, HVFR president, attended on behalf of the fire company. He said HVFR hopes to have all its paperwork in order by mid-October for a buyer of the former Valley View Fire Company building.
Parcel A is at West Maple Street, Snooks Alley and West Walnut Street. It is zoned R-2, low/ medium density, residential. The plan was dated Aug. 10 and received by Schuylkill County on Aug. 30.
The adjacent parcel, Parcel B, had already been sold by HVFR and transferred to Larry Coleman, according to Starr. It is an existing family dwelling with an existing on-site sewage system and is serviced by Hegins-Hubley Municipal Authority for water. The Hegins Township Planning Commission and township supervisors had already approved the subdivision plan to create Parcel B, but it was never recorded, according to Al Swab, township zoning officer.
In other business, the commission also approved a subdivision plan for Thomas Shadle on East Mountain Road, Hegins.
