The Republican Herald - - PENN STATE PREVIEW -

Tegray Scales, LB

Scales finally earned national recognition in 2016 when named him a second-team All-American, and he is even better in 2017. He gave Ohio State’s defense fits in the season opener, piling up 12 tackles, and he added eight in a win over Virginia. Since the start of 2016, Scales has 10 games in which he has recorded 10 or more tackles, and he also has three in which he has more than one sack.

Tyler Davis, PK

Davis was an amazing story in 2016, but he hasn’t been quite as good this season with a new snap-and-hold battery in front of him. He’s just 4-for-8 on field goal attempts, and a surprising 1-for-5 on kicks beyond 30 yards, including one blocked last week at Iowa. It’s not exactly as if all of the misses were his fault, nor is it like there is another kicker challenging him seriously for the job. But Penn State is going to need more consistency from its field goal unit, starting this week.
