Na­tiv­ity, Pottsville stand­outs earn honor

Hill­top­pers’ Cris­tian Vazquez, Tide’s Collin Ebling re­ceive all-state ac­co­lades

Se­niors Cris­tian Vazquez of Na­tiv­ity and Collin Ebling of Potts- ville were named to the Penn­syl­va­nia Soc­cer Coaches As­so­ci­a­tion All-State Team as part of the Schuylkill League All-Star Teams as se­lected by league coaches.

The hon­ors cap off stel­lar sea­sons for both.

Vazquez, with 38 goals, was the lead­ing scorer in the league this sea­son, help­ing the Hill­top­pers to the Di­vi­sion II wild card and a berth in the league semi­fi­nals.

Ebling tal­lied 19 goals in help­ing to lead the Crim­son Tide to its first league cham­pi­onship since 1997.

League cham­pion Pottsville, along with run­ner-up Jim Thorpe, Le­high­ton, Pine Grove and Ta­maqua all had two first-team se­lec­tions on the league all-star squad, while North Schuylkill had one.

Lead­ing the way on the sec­ond team was Pine Grove with four se­lec­tions.

In Di­vi­sion II, cham­pion Wil­liams Val­ley led the way with seven first-team se­lec­tions, while Schuylkill Haven and Lour­des had two each and di­vi­sion run­ner-up Na­tiv­ity had one.

Schuylkill Haven led the way with four sec­ond-team se­lec­tions, while Min­ersville had three and Tri-Val­ley, Weatherly and Lour­des had two each.

Se­lected as league Coaches of the Year were Seth Shuey, who guided Wil­liams Val­ley to the Di­vi­sion II ti­tle, in Class A, Mike Du­dak, who led Jim Thorpe to the league cham­pi­onship game, in Class AA and Dave New­ton, who men­tored Pottsville to the league cham­pi­onship, in Class AAA.
