Crash kills 1, in­jures 2 in North Union Twp.

NUREM­BERG — One per­son died and two oth­ers were in­jured in a sin­gle-ve­hi­cle crash in North Union Town­ship on Wed­nes­day night, state po­lice at Frackville said.

A car driven by Do­minic Mott IV, 24, of Ha­zle­ton, was headed north on Nurem­berg Mountain Road around 8 p.m. when he claimed to have lost con­trol of the ve­hi­cle due to the wet road, state po­lice said. The car left the road and hit sev­eral large rocks, caus­ing the ve­hi­cle to turn over sev­eral times be­fore com­ing to a rest on the berm, po­lice said.

A rear-seat pas­sen­ger was thrown from the car and pro­nounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner David Truskowsky. The vic­tim’s name is not be­ing re­leased pend­ing no­ti­fi­ca­tion of the fam­ily, po­lice said.

Mott was taken by Amer­i­can Pa­tient Trans­port Sys­tems to Geisigner Wyoming Val­ley Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Plains Town­ship, and a front-seat pas­sen­ger, Ceara Cor­reia-Fitzger­ald, 20, of Ha­zle­ton, was trans­ported by EMS for treat­ment, po­lice said.

State po­lice were as­sisted by Troop L’s re­con­struc­tion and foren­sic ser­vices units, East Union Town­ship po­lice, and fire per­son­nel from Shep­p­ton-Oneida and Nurem­berg-We­ston fire com­pa­nies.

The road was shut down for sev­eral hours while the crash was in­ves­ti­gated. The in­ves­ti­ga­tion is con­tin­u­ing.
