Crash kills 1, injures 2 in North Union Twp.
NUREMBERG — One person died and two others were injured in a single-vehicle crash in North Union Township on Wednesday night, state police at Frackville said.
A car driven by Dominic Mott IV, 24, of Hazleton, was headed north on Nuremberg Mountain Road around 8 p.m. when he claimed to have lost control of the vehicle due to the wet road, state police said. The car left the road and hit several large rocks, causing the vehicle to turn over several times before coming to a rest on the berm, police said.
A rear-seat passenger was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner David Truskowsky. The victim’s name is not being released pending notification of the family, police said.
Mott was taken by American Patient Transport Systems to Geisigner Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township, and a front-seat passenger, Ceara Correia-Fitzgerald, 20, of Hazleton, was transported by EMS for treatment, police said.
State police were assisted by Troop L’s reconstruction and forensic services units, East Union Township police, and fire personnel from Sheppton-Oneida and Nuremberg-Weston fire companies.
The road was shut down for several hours while the crash was investigated. The investigation is continuing.
