100 years ago — 1918

P.J. Come­ford, Fos­ter Town­ship tax re­ceiver, set­tled with the county com­mis­sion­ers the tax du­pli­cate for 1917.

75 years ago — 1943

As a re­sult of re­cent leg­is­la­tion, fam­i­lies will no longer re­ceive milk vouch­ers from the Schuylkill County Board of As­sis­tance. Pre­vi­ously, moth­ers’ as­sis­tance cases re­ceived a voucher which was re­deemable through their reg­u­lar milk deal­ers at the rate of one pint of milk for each child in the fam­ily un­der 16 years of age.

50 years ago — 1968

Bert Block, Foun­tain Springs, joined the ap­pli­ance depart­ment sales staff at Hadesty’s. He is a grad­u­ate of Drexel In­sti­tute Evening School in mu­nic­i­pal engi­neer­ing and stud­ied two years at the Whar­ton School.

25 years ago — 1993

Schuylkill County vot­ers were not rush­ing to the polls this morn­ing to cast bal­lots in the pri­mary elec­tion. The polls opened at 7 a.m., and many elec­tion work­ers said they did not ex­pect a big turnout this time. Vot­ers were to se­lect nom­i­nees for a county judge­ship, sher­iff, dis­trict at­tor­ney, dis­trict jus­tice and a host of mu­nic­i­pal and school board seats.
