Peter Thomas Luddy, 21, of Ma­hanoy City, passed away May 8 at 6:58 p.m. in Car­il­lion Me­mo­rial Hos­pi­tal, Roanoke, Va., fol­low­ing a trau­matic brain in­jury while on a train­ing mis­sion with the Army.

Peter was born in Ha­zle­ton, March 9, 1997, a son of El­iz­a­beth Fer­rante her fi­ance, Sean Run­kle, and Thomas Luddy Sr. and his fi­ancee, Su­san Bet­tinger.

He was serv­ing in the Army Re­serves 811th in Rainelle, W.Va., for his an­nual train­ing.

He worked for Boscov’s in the Lau­rel Mall, Ha­zle­ton, in loss preven­tion. His goal was to be­come a po­lice of­fi­cer. (Bruhh) Peter grad­u­ated from Ma­hanoy Area High School, Class of 2015, and was at­tend­ing Penn State. He played bas­ket­ball with his team The Golden Bears and was ac­tive in Ma­hanoy Area even af­ter grad­u­a­tion. He loved hik­ing, fish­ing and guns.

Peter was an or­gan donor. On May 10 at 1:15 p.m. he do­nated his or­gans, which shows just how car­ing he was and how much he wanted to help as many peo­ple as he could. His heart was placed in a woman just hours af­ter he do­nated. The fam­ily hopes to meet her.

Peter was pre­ceded in death by a brother, Michael Peter Gar­avuso; pa­ter­nal grand­mother, Ar­line Farr; ma­ter­nal grand­fa­ther, Peter Fer­rante.

Peter is sur­vived by four sisters, Michelle “Lala” Gar­avuso, Coal­dale, Nancy Gar­avuso, Queens, N.Y., Stephanie Luddy, Scran­ton, and Vanessa Luddy, Scran­ton; two broth­ers, Frank Luddy, Sugarloaf, and Thomas Luddy Jr., Scran­ton; ma­ter­nal grand­mother, Nancy Arato, Ma­hanoy City. He is also sur­vived by many aunts, un­cles, nieces and neph­ews.

A Mass of Chris­tian Burial will be cel­e­brated at 11 a.m. Mon­day at St. Teresa of Cal­cutta Par­ish, Ma­hanoy City, with the Rev. Kevin P. Gal­lagher of­fi­ci­at­ing, fol­lowed by full mil­i­tary hon­ors at the church. Friends and fam­ily may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Satur­day and from 2 to 5 p.m. Sun­day at Louis D.
