May 15, 2018
Caroline V. Whalen, 72, of Shenandoah, passed away peacefully Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital Network-Cedar Crest, Allentown, with family by her side.
Born in Frackville, Feb. 7, 1946, she was a daughter of the late William C. Schaeffer and Elizabeth Meck Yasembousky.
Her faith was not of an organized religion. Carol believed there is a God and he is good and that one day he would take her home. Of this she spoke often. Carol’s life was not defined by her education or occupation. Her life was defined by her giving nature. She gave of herself to anyone in need. She was the open door and the open arms to anyone in need. Her giving nature was extended to animals. No stray was turned away. She loved her garden and could make anything grow, be it a poinsettia in May or roses in December.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael X. Whalen; three brothers, Arthur Meck, William “Bud” Schaeffer and Daniel Schaeffer; two sisters, Inez Smarowsky and Patricia Schaeffer.
Surviving are her two daughters, Michelle Cook, Pittsburgh, and Shannon Sterner, Oregon; five sons, Eddie, Jimmy, Bobby and Jeffrey, all of Shenandoah, and Shawn Whalen, Frackville; The prides of her life, her grandchildren, Courtney, Shalynn, Caroline, Traci, Bobby, Eric, Jordan, Sean, Regine, Michaelene and Desiree; two great-grandchildren, Jamie Lynn and Brayden; her siblings, with whom she shared her happiest memories, brother, John Schaeffer, Pottsville; three sisters, Elizabeth Russell, Lebanon, Hayley Moran, Colorado, and Cheryl Schaeffer-Waite, Texas; nieces and nephews.
