John V. “Jay” Ryan, 80, of Mar Lin, passed away Tues­day at his res­i­dence.

He was born in Pottsville, on June 10, 1938, a son of the late Ed­ward and Helen Strange Ryan.

He was the hus­band of Carol Ann Tomecheck Ryan.

Jay was an avid fan of NASCAR and through­out the decades en­joyed his Fri­day nights at Big Di­a­mond Race­way. He en­joyed watch­ing and sup­port­ing the Pitts­burg Steel­ers. Jay was known for keep­ing his ve­hi­cles metic­u­lously clean at all times. Some­thing he took great pride in.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, Jay was pre­ceded in death by a brother, Ge­orge Ryan, and sis­ters, An­n­marie Prelovsky and Mary Knarr, as well as in­fant twin brothers.

He is sur­vived by his wife, Carol; and a sis­ter, Clare, wife of Gerald Trasatt. Jay is also sur­vived by a sis­ter-in­law, Net­tie Ryan; a broth­erin-law, Michael Prelovsky; nieces and neph­ews.

A Mass of Chris­tian Burial will be cel­e­brated at 10 a.m. Wed­nes­day at St. Michael the Ar­changel Church, Min­ersville, with the Rev. Christo­pher M. Zelo­nis of­fi­ci­at­ing.
