Emily Demalis, daughter of Anthony and Judy Demalis, Shenandoah, and a senior at Shenandoah Valley High School, was named student of the month for September by the Shenandoah Rotary Club.
Emily is enrolled in the academic business vocational program. She is a four- year member of the girls’ basketball and volleyball teams, serving as basketball team captain her senior year and volleyball captain for three years. She is a four- year member of the track team and a one- year member of the cross country team. She has been class president all four years of high school and a two- year member of the student council. She currently serves as president of the student council and National Honor Society.
Emily attended the 2016 Central PA HO BY Schuylkill Community Leadership Workshop, is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and a morning announcer. She is an organizer for Mini- Thon and a member of the float, prom, formal, Spring Queen and yearbook committees.
Emily is involved with the gifted program and Educational Talent Search Program. She participated in Powderpuff football and was a candidate for Spring Queen and homecoming.
In the community, Emily’s volunteer activities include Shenandoah Rotary ( Rotary Way footsteps), Frackville Elks’ breakfast and charity bingo, MiniThon stand at gold out football game, seventh grade orientation, Meet the Teachers night, concession stands for youth soccer, CYO basketball and high school football, Downtown Shenandoah Inc. golf tournament fundraiser, various stands during festivals such as Kielbasa Fest and Frackville Elks Summer Craft & Vendor Show, junior high track meets, junior high/ elementary cross country meet, services at blood drive, elementary field day, elementary book fair and school sports tournaments such as Hoops for Heart, Volleyball and 5- on- 5 basketball. She has served as a Veterans Day Program speaker, a Powderpuff football charity game organizer, stat recorder for the basketball team and she has helped shovel snow and cut grass for elderly neighbors.
Emily plans to attend college and major in biomedical engineering after graduation.
