Schuylkill to de­but 8- team play­off for­mat

The Schuylkill League will un­veil its new eight- team play­off bracket in girls’ vol

ley­ball Mon­day at two lo­ca­tions.

Un­like prior years’ fourteam play­off con­sist­ing of only di­vi­sion cham­pi­ons, the

league’s four di­vi­sion run­ners- up will also com­pete in the ex­panded for­mat.

The play­offs be­gin with a pair of quar­ter­fi­nal dou­ble­head­ers Mon­day at two sites.

At Min­ersville’s Thomas Fitz­patrick Gym­na­sium, Di­vi­sion III cham­pion Hal­i­fax will op­pose Di­vi­sion II run­ner- up Jim Thorpe at 5: 30 p. m. Di­vi­sion I cham­pion Pottsville will face Di­vi­sion IV run­ner- up Mahanoy Area 30 min­utes af­ter the first quar­ter­fi­nal’s con­clu­sion.

At Le­high­ton, Di­vi­sion II win­ner Pan­ther Val­ley will face Di­vi­sion III sec­ond- place Millers­burg at 5: 30 p. m. The sec­ond match will pit Di­vi­sion IV cham­pion Na­tiv­ity against Di­vi­sion I run­ner- up Blue Moun­tain.

The semi­fi­nal dou­ble­header will be held at 5: 30 p. m. Wed­nes­day at Min­ersville. Those win­ners will vie for the Schuylkill League cham­pi­onship at 7 p. m. Thurs­day at Martz Hall.

North Schuylkill 3 Shenan­doah Val­ley 1

SHENAN­DOAH — Terra Stravin­sky had five kills, 26 as­sists, nine ser­vice points, two aces and 22 digs to lead North Schuylkill to a 15- 25, 25- 15, 25- 19, 25- 16 tri­umph over Shenan­doah Val­ley.

An­gel Far­rone had five kills, two as­sists, 10 ser­vice points and 17 digs for North Schuylkill ( 1- 16). Ka­t­rina Hill­bish had 25 digs for the

Spar­tans in the vic­tory.

Vic­to­ria Dono­van had six kills and 14 digs for Shenan­doah Val­ley ( 4- 14). Abby Con­roy had eight kills, Rachel Ro­guskie had six kills and Emily De­malis had 22 as­sists.

North Schuylkill won JV 2- 0.

Shamokin 3 Tri- Val­ley 1

HEGINS — Myah Wehry had 10 kills and Matilda Risso posted 15 as­sists for TriVal­ley in its 25- 21, 25- 18, 20- 25, 25- 20 loss to Shamokin in a Twin Val­ley Con­fer­ence match.

Faith Co­la­han had four aces and nine digs for the Bull­dogs ( 4- 14). Caitlin Weav- er had five digs and four aces, while Casey Mcnally had nine digs.

Tri- Val­ley won JV 2- 1.

Up­per Dauphin 3

Ju­ni­ata 0

MIFFLINTOWN — Up­per Dauphin de­feated Ju­ni­ata 25- 19, 25- 17, 25- 23 in a Tri- Val­ley League match.

Up­per Dauphin fin­ished its reg­u­lar sea­son at 14- 6 and will en­ter the Dis­trict 3 Class A play­offs.

Jim Thorpe 3 Weatherly 0

JIM THORPE — Jim Thorpe de­feated Weatherly in a non- league match.

Set scores and match de­tails were not re­ported.

Jim Thorpe im­proved to 13- 4, while Weatherly ended its sea­son at 3- 17.

Lour­des’ match date switched

COAL TWP. — Lour­des’ sched­uled non- league match against Sugar Val­ley Ru­ral Char­ter was moved to 12: 15 p. m. Satur­day, Oct. 20.

Col­lege Women PSU- Brandy­wine 3 PSU- Schuylkill 0

ME­DIA — Chloe Readinger had five kills and seven digs for Penn State Schuylkill in its 25- 13, 25- 11, 25- 22 loss to Penn State Brandy­wine in a Penn State Univer­sity Ath­letic Con­fer­ence match.

Alyssa Hat­ter added two digs and six digs for the Li­ons ( 5- 15, 4- 4 PSUAC East). Alexis Bres­lin had three kills and four digs. Noel Kauf­man and Alyssa Hat­ter each had two kills and six digs.

Han­nah Sara­fi­nas had 12 kills for PSU- Brandy­wine.
