Joseph J. Yanushefsky Sr., 91, of Shenandoah, passed away Thursday at Shenandoah Senior Living Community, Shenandoah.
Joseph was born in Shenandoah, on March 17, 1927, a son of the late Catherine Stranvinskas and Anthony Yanushefsky.
He graduated from Shenandoah High School and attended electrical trade school.
He was a member of the for mer St. George, now Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah.
He served in the Navy in World War II. He also served in the Army as a corporal in the Korean War.
He was t he owner of Capital Food Market in Shenandoah.
He was a member of the Polish American Fire Company, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, the Moose, Catholic War Veterans, Six County Firemen’s Association and the Knights of Lithuania.
He was the widower of Violet Gudonis Yanushefsky.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Albert and John, and a sister, Eva Limper.
Joseph is survived by a son, Joseph Jr., husband of Marylou; two grandchildren, Joseph III and Janelle Chatcavage; two great- grandchildren, Lucas and Jameson; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City, with the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher officiating. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish. Interment is private at the convenience of the family in St. George’ s Cemetery, Shenandoah. The family prefers donations be made to Janet Weis Children’s Hospital, 100 N. Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17822. Louis D.
