Joseph J. Yanushef­sky Sr., 91, of Shenan­doah, passed away Thurs­day at Shenan­doah Se­nior Liv­ing Com­mu­nity, Shenan­doah.

Joseph was born in Shenan­doah, on March 17, 1927, a son of the late Cather­ine Stran­vin­skas and An­thony Yanushef­sky.

He grad­u­ated from Shenan­doah High School and at­tended elec­tri­cal trade school.

He was a mem­ber of the for mer St. Ge­orge, now Di­vine Mercy Parish, Shenan­doah.

He served in the Navy in World War II. He also served in the Army as a cor­po­ral in the Korean War.

He was t he owner of Cap­i­tal Food Mar­ket in Shenan­doah.

He was a mem­ber of the Pol­ish Amer­i­can Fire Com­pany, Amer­i­can Le­gion, Knights of Colum­bus, the Moose, Catholic War Vet­er­ans, Six County Fire­men’s As­so­ci­a­tion and the Knights of Lithua­nia.

He was the wid­ower of Vi­o­let Gudo­nis Yanushef­sky.

He was pre­ceded in death by broth­ers, Al­bert and John, and a sis­ter, Eva Lim­per.

Joseph is sur­vived by a son, Joseph Jr., hus­band of Mary­lou; two grand­chil­dren, Joseph III and Janelle Chat­cav­age; two great- grand­chil­dren, Lu­cas and Jame­son; nieces and neph­ews.

A Mass of Chris­tian Burial will be cel­e­brated at 11 a.m. Thurs­day at St. Teresa of Cal­cutta Parish, Ma­hanoy City, with the Rev. Kevin P. Gal­lagher of­fi­ci­at­ing. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Thurs­day at St. Teresa of Cal­cutta Parish. In­ter­ment is pri­vate at the con­ve­nience of the fam­ily in St. Ge­orge’ s Ceme­tery, Shenan­doah. The fam­ily prefers do­na­tions be made to Janet Weis Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal, 100 N. Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17822. Louis D.
