Krasner advances in DA race
East Falls resident wins uncontested Democratic primary
PHILADELPHIA>> Civil rights attorney Larry Krasner won the Democratic primary for Philadelphia District Attorney Tuesday, May 16.
Krasner received 58,165 votes for 38.19 percent of the total, according to unofficial results posted on the Philadelphia County election website.
Two residents of the Lower Northwest placed second and third in the contest that featured seven candidates.
Roxborough resident Joe Khan, a former prosecutor with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, garnered 30,994 votes, or 20.35 percent, to finish second. Meanwhile, East Falls resident Rich Negrin, the city’s former managing director under Mayor Michael Nutter, received 21,708 votes, or 14.25 percent, for third.
Michael Untermeyer received 12,435 votes, while Tariq El-Shabazz earned 17701. Jack O’Neill (9,070 votes) and Teresa Carr Deni (2,229 votes) rounded out the field of seven Democratic candidates.
While Khan and Negrin fell short of securing the Democratic nomination, the Lower Northwest will still be represented on the General Election ballot.
Krasner will face off with East Falls resident Beth Grossman in November. Grossman, a former prosecutor with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and chief of staff at the Department of Licenses and Inspections, ran unopposed on the Republican ballot, receiving 9,297 votes.
