AHCA would have negative impact on millions

- — Tarik S. Khan, East Falls

To the Editor:

When I heard of the horrific shooting of Congressman Scalise, my heart sank. Capitol Police, emergency personnel and hospital workers were heroic, and their brave actions thankfully saved the Congressman’s life.

But the real hero for the congressman and his family will be his health insurance. It’s his insurance coverage that will make sure his hospital stay, medical equipment, physical therapy and medication is paid for.

Sadly, if the AHCA is passed, tens of millions of patients with insurance will lose the essential health benefits and patient protections that will save themin amedical tragedy from illness, preventable death and bankruptcy. Furthermore, 23million Americans will lose insurance altogether.

As we pray for Congressman Scalise’s rapid and full recovery, let’s also remember to pray that tens of millions of Americans will not lose the health coverage and protections thatmay one day be heroic for themselves and their families.
