ROXBOROUGH » Stanley’s True Value Hardware & Rental in Roxborough prides itself on its extremely knowledgeable staff and a wide array of products and services.

The store is family owned by brothers Mark and Joe Jaconski and has been serving Roxbor- ough and the surrounding area for nearly 70 years. The owners are already making plans to celebrate the milestone throughout 2018.

Stanley’s Hardware is a full line hardware store selling a large selection of tools, hardware, plumbing and electrical supplies, small appliances, cleaning supplies and lawn and garden products. The store also offers different home services, such as keymaking, window and screen repair and equipment rental.

The hardware store was started by the Jaconskis’s grandfather, Stanley, and their father, also named Stanley, in 1948. The store has been located at its current address, 5555 Ridge Ave., for decades, but the current building is still relatively new, having been built in 2013.

The new building is four times the size of the original store and is designed to function better as well, with wider aisles and better lighting, said Mark.

“It allowed us to bring in so much more product,” Mark said. “It’s pretty much a destination store. We have incredible inventory.”

With the new building, Stanley’sHardwarewas able to add its garden center and rental center. The store rents equipment such as lawn aerators, tillers, pressure washers and floor sanders, aswell as tables, chairs, canopies and backyard inflatables.

The expansion has better positioned the store to cater to a changing — and growing — customer base. The store serves customers from Andorra to East Falls and everywhere in between and even has the occasional customer from Center City.

“The neighborhood has changed a lot in the last 10 years,” said Alex Jaconski, Mark’s son and the fourth generation of the family to work at the store.

“For the longest time, there was no new construction,” said Mark, adding now “they’re putting homes or apartments anywhere they can.”

With more young people moving into the area, Mark explained, they were careful to make the new store more “female friendly,” knowing thatmany women now have a more active role in making home improvement decisions.

Adding the garden center, alongwith adding Benjamin Moore paint to the store’s products have both been a hit with female customers, said Mark.

While the store has plenty of products and services to offer, Mark says “bottom line,” it is their focus on quality customer service that helps themstand out among the competition.

“We don’t talk down to women, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and there’s plenty of people on staff,” he said.

In fact, Stanley’s Hardware boasts having more than 200 years of combined retail hardware experience on its current staff. Any time a customer has a question, there are more than enough employees on hand to help out.
