Hello, September! Yesterday morning on my way to work I noticed a man walking down the street. He was wearing long pants and a light jacket and I thought to myself, “We have finally reached the time of year that we can be comfortable wearing a light jacket in the morning and not suffer from heat exhaustion.” And it set the tone for the rest of my day, because I love this time of year, and I hate being hot. If I could play the months of September, October, November and December over and over again, like an alternate version of the movie “Groundhog Day,” I would do it.
The month of September in particular always feels different to me than any other month. I associate September with the beginning of a new season, my favorite season, fall. Football begins this month (Chicago Bears fan here). Kids are settling into their school year routines — and all the parents in the area erupt in applause! I'm especially excited this year because in just eight short days I will be on a plane traveling to see my parents at their house in Colorado. I plan to turn my phone off, deactivate all social media, and enjoy my time with my mom and dad exploring the mountains.
This issue has been dubbed HER Magazine's Fall Fitness issue. Stories about local female athletes, healthy eating and ways to stay active await you in this issue. We will also introduce you to the Riley Brothers, owners of Riley Art Glass Studio, and Dr. Cari Cordell, the only female orthopedic surgeon in Hot Springs.
I hope you all enjoy your seasonal transition and I'll see you in October!
