Mary Cantu Wood, 96, of Hot Springs, passed away peace­fully on Sun­day, July 23, 2017, at the Qua­paw Nurs­ing & Re­hab Cen­ter. She was born on Feb. 2, 1921, in Ray­mondville, Texas.

Mary worked at Remick’s drug­store un­til she mar­ried Au­drey Wood in 1957. They moved to Galve­ston where she worked at a bait shop, and later to Timp­son, Texas, where they re­tired and worked on a farm.

She en­joyed work­ing out­side, read­ing, writ­ing let­ters, word fin­der games, and par­tic­i­pat­ing in the ac­tiv­i­ties at the nurs­ing home. She al­ways loved speak­ing with ev­ery­body, telling sto­ries and loved to laugh.

Mary was al­ways pos­i­tive and showed great strength de­spite her chal­lenges. She was loved by ev­ery­one whose life she touched.

She is sur­vived by her niece, Irene (Larry) Gon­za­les from Texas; her great nieces, Laura (Dustin) Lawhorn from Ala., Leah (Robert) Trevino, Lisa (Bryan) Smith both from Texas; and niece Diana Flores from Texas.

Pre­ced­ing her in death was her hus­band of 39 years, Au­drey E. Wood; her sis­ter, Sofia Cantu Bar­rera; and her brothers, Je­sus Cantu, Guadalupe Cantu; nephew, Os­car Cantu and many other ex­tended fam­ily mem­bers.
