Polly Whitby passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018. She was born June 15, 1917, in Paron (Reform), Ark., to Sam and Sarah (Williams) Curtis.

Upon high school graduation, she moved to Hot Springs. In 1939, she completed a cosmetolog­y course and began working as a beautician on Central Avenue in downtown Hot Springs. After a few years, World War II started and she met her future husband, Jimmy Whitby, a young soldier stationed at the Army-Navy Hospital. They married in 1944 and remained married until his death in 1982.

She was predecease­d by her husband; parents; stepmother, Ella Cross Curtis; three brothers, Homer, Orvist and Dick (Charles Vernon) Curtis; two sisters, Alene Moss and Vivian Jones; and her grandson, Derek Johnston.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Johnston, of San Antonio, Texas, and Lynn Bennett (James), of Hot Springs; two grandchild­ren, Kimberly Johnston, of Arvada, Colo., and Grant Bennett (Meg) of Conway; and five great-grandchild­ren. She is also survived by two brothers, Bill Curtis, of Hot Springs Village, and Jimmy Curtis, of Benton; and one sister-in-law, Betty Curtis, of Alexander.

A celebratio­n of Polly’s life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at CaruthHale Funeral Home with Pastor John McCallum officiatin­g.
