Man arrested in Fair Oaks Ranch area

A suspected looter was arrested in the Santa Clarita Valley after sheriff’s deputies found him in Fair Oaks Ranch while it was evacuated due to the Sand fire.

Palmdale Sheriff’s Station deputies who were assigned to patrol the neighborho­od Monday came across a man who appeared to be hiding under a parked vehicle, according to a statement from the station.

The man told deputies he was working on his vehicle, but he did not live in the area and could not explain why he was in the evacuated area, according to deputies.

They learned the San Fernando resident had an extensive criminal record. He was arrested on a nobail warrant.

Deputies from across Los Angeles County were called in to help with the Sand fire, which has burned more than 38,000 acres in the Angeles National Forest and the Santa Clarita Valley since July 22.
