She was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Anchor, IL in 1953 and was very active in the Luther League both locally and nationally. She went on to study at Wartburg College from 1958 to 1960, where she met her husband Donald.
Sherilyn married Donald Bathgate of Toluca, IL on August 14, 1960 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. After their wedding, they moved to Newhall, CA where she worked as a Nurse’s Aide and later as a Lab Technician. In 1975, they moved to Agoura Hills, CA and she worked as a Lab Technician at Westlake Village Hospital in Westlake Village, CA.
Sherilyn loved her family dearly and cherished her grandchildren. She loved spending summer days on the beach with her children in California, playing the piano and gazing at the stars on a clear summer night on her farm in Illinois. She had many talents and was well known for her cooking especially her pies and peanut brittle, her beautiful
stained glass work and her never ending work on the family histories. She and her husband retired in 1993 and moved back to Illinois to the family farm in rural Anchor, IL. During her “retirement”, she served on the St. John’s Lutheran Church council as Treasurer and later as President. She was very involved in documenting the church history.
In September 2015 she and Donald moved to Robins, IA to be closer to family. The family would like to thank the staff at Emery Place Assisted Living, Unity Point Hospice and Northbrook Manor Care Center for their dedicated care.
