This year marks the 15 years since the September 11 attacks.

The Boyertown Alumni Marching Unit will be honoring local first responders as a part of a tribute concert on Sunday, Sept. 11.

This free concert will be held in the Boyertown Jr. High West auditorium at 2 p.m. In addition to the Alumni Unit, the concert will feature the Boyertown Junior and Senior High Show Choirs along with the Boyertown Area Choral As- sociation.

“What I thought would be important this year would be to honor the first responders,” said Jayne McHugh, concert organizer. “It is the first responders’ fearlessness and selflessness that we will never forget.”

McHugh has reached out all of the police, fire, and ambulance companies throughout the Boyertown Area School District; however the invitation is not limited to only Boyertown area companies.

“Any and all first responders of course are invited,” said McHugh, adding that she hopes other companies will see the concert advertised and feel welcomed. “We’re asking them to come in uniform, thought it would be appropriate.”

This is not the first concert the Unit has held in remembrance of Sept. 11.

“Back on September 11, 2001, the Boyertown Area Alumni Unit put together a healing concert that Sun- day after the attacks,” said McHugh. The concert was held at the senior high school that year. “We had a thousand people there.”

In the years following, the Unit held a five year and a 10 year remembrance concerts. Both were well attended.

“They were touching concerts. The fifteenth year concert will be no different. It will be a memorable one, definitely.” McHugh hopes everyone will come out for the concert. “Even though it’s been 15 years – when you say ‘9/11,’ your heart still hurts.”

The auditorium at Junior High West seats 1,200 peo- ple and the goal is get every seat filled.
