Exeter comes alive in second half
Eagles dispatch Weiser 31-7; Gov. Mifflin stays unbeaten in Section 1
The Exeter Eagles scored 31 unanswered second-half points Friday night to dispatch Conrad Weiser 31-7 in a key Berks League Section 1 battle.
The victory improved Exeter’s mark to 3-1 in the section (6-2 overall), and the Eagles are the only team left that can catch front-runner Governor Mifflin, though the Mustangs would have to cooperate with a pair of losses to close out the slate for that to happen. Weiser fell to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the section, with any title hopes just about extinguished.
Exeter’s fourth consecutive victory was built on the back of an offense that took off after the halftime break and a defense that limited the visiting Scouts to 40 yards rushing on 33 attempts.
Trailing 7-0 in the third quar- ter, Exeter got on the board on a 12-yard touchdown run by quarterback Brandon Unterkoefler. A two-point conversion try was unsuccessful, but the Eagles made up for later in the quarter when Gabe Schappell hauled in a 34yard scoring strike from Unterkoefler and the QB ran for two points.
A 24-yard field goal from Tyler Bentz gave the hosts a 17-7 advantage, which was extended to final margin on paydirt from of 40 and 6 yards from Unterkoefler and Schappell, respectively.
Nick Sarangoulis rushed for 137 on 16 carries for the Eagles. Un- terkoefler did most of his damage with his legs, rushing for 119 on 16 while going a pedestrian 3 of 12 from the pocket. His effect was on maximum, however – 93 yards on those three completions, including that touchdown pass.
Weiser got its only score in the second quarter, a 45-yard TD reception by Kwis Mountinard from Austin Costenbader.

BOONE 27 >> Daniel Boone showed a bit more offense in the second half of Friday’s game with Gettysburg.
But it wasn’t enough to offset the Warriors’ firsthalf power. That early muscle-flexing helped Gettysburg roll up a 46-27 victory on the Blazers in their non-league outing.
Trailing its hosts by a 33-7 count at halftime, Boone (3-5 overall) opened
the second half with Joshua Ehst hitting Ian Rathgeb on a 13-yard pass. The Blazers made it a 3919 game in the third quarter with help from an Ehst-to-Ryan Okuniewski pass good for 26 yards, but the Warriors matched their guests touchdown- fortouchdown in the fourth to secure their fourth victory in five recent outings.
Ehst factored in all Boone’s scoring. While going 13-for-25 in the passing game — he threw for 233 of the team’s 237 yards, Okuniewski passing for the other four — Ehst ran for touchdowns of one and
four yards in his 141-yard rushing performance.
Spencer McIntosh contributed another 69 yards to the Blazers’ 235-yard rushing game. Okuniewski caught five passes for 149 yards, in addition to getting an interception on the defensive side.
For Gettysburg, Edny Celius ( 12 carries, 182 yards) scored on runs of 40, one and 79 yards. Wesley Gayle followed Boone’s third TD with a 70-yard kickoff return that put the Warriors up heading into the fourth, and he also made a 23-yard scoring run in the second quarter.
