Twin Valley boys, Wilson girls win Berks meet

Wyomissing’s Cullen, Wilson’s Willingmyr­e win individual meet

Joe Cullen and Twin Valley were the big winners in the Berks Conference championsh­ip meet’s boys’ competitio­n recently held at Kutztown.

Cullen, a junior from Wyomissing, was the individual winner with a time of 16:39. The Raiders, in turn, rode a tight pack in the Top 10 to a team championsh­ip.

Chase Knorr (17:25), Griffin Schlegel (17:28), Dylan Servis (17:28) and Garrett Knorr (17:32) went 6-7-8-9 en route to scoring a conference-leading 44 points. Cullen and his Wyomissing mates were second with 65 points, followed by Wilson (73) and Daniel Boone (123).

Following Wilson’s second-place Jake Underwood (16:49) were Mifflin’s Alex Ermold (third, 17:16) and Josiah Mansell (fourth, 17:18). Wyomissing’s Chip Schroder (fifth, 17:22) andn Ben Kuhn (10th, 17:40) completed the Top 10.

The “second 10” was marked by the Boone’s Zach Murray and Ethan Shane (both 17:52) going 17th and 18th while Alex Pingatore placed 20th (18:02). Wilson also had three placers in the group: Peter Vicari (13th, 17:47), Will Schoener ( 15th, 17:49) and Evan Royko (16th, 17:51).

Completing the Top 20 were Exeter’s Ricky Whitmoyer (11th, 17:42), Hamburg’s Wyatt Conrad (12th, 17:46), TV’s Micheal Digiacomo (14th, 17:47) and Wyomissing’s Ryan Vargo (19th, 17:58).

GIRLS

Wilson dominated the action from the girls’ side at the Berks Conference cross country meet held recently at Kutztown.

The Bulldogs not only boasted the race’s individual winner in Allison Willingmyr­e, they also had four runners place in the Top 10 of the 13-school meet — eight in the Top 20. It added up to a 31-point showing that effectivel­y distanced Wilson from runner- up Twin Valley (95), third-place Gov. Mifflin (98) and the rest of the Berks field.

Willingmyr­e ran a 19:09 to finish more than 20 seconds ahead of Oley Valley’s Rebecca Snyder, who crossed the line in 19:31. They were the lone runners to go below the 20-minute mark, coming in well ahead of Wilson’s Lindsay Sanger (20:12) and Bryn Underwood (20:33).

The other ‘Dog in the top 10 was Reagan Underwood, eighth in 20:48. Wilson’s fifth placer was Chelsea Lewis, 15th in 21:41.

Mifflin’s Andrea Miller (fifth, 20:44) and Joi Carter (seventh, 20:47) sandwiched Conrad Weiser’s Maddy Frasch, sixth in 20:44. Twin Valley’s Liz Duplass and Gina Mattera ( both 21:15) were the respective ninth- and 10thplace finishers.

The race’s “second 10” was filled out by Oley’s Holly Talarico (11th, 21:24), Wyomissing’s Monique Bristol (12th, 21:27) and Shelby Theisen (19th, 21:48), Exeter’s Ella Ehlert ( 13th, 21:30) and Julie Yeakley (17th, 21:45), Kutztown’s Maria Marmarou (14th, 21:32), Hamburg’s Quinn Holl (16th, 21:43), Wilson’s Talia Spillerman (18th, 21:45) and Berks Catholic’s Hilary Good (21:50).

Daniel Boone, which finished fifth in the team standings (143 points), was led by Carlina Davis (24th, 22:08), Maeve Picariello (27th, 22:16) and Lauren Reightneou­r (28th, 22:23).
