Daniel Boone Homestead to hold Chil­dren’s Day.

Chil­dren’s Day Sheep & Wool Pro­gram: Satur­day, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Travel back in time for a fun-filled af­ter­noon of hands-on ac­tiv­i­ties and 18th-cen­tury demon­stra­tions for chil­dren and their fam­i­lies on Satur­day, May 6, at the Daniel Boone Homestead. Chil­dren will learn about Daniel’s mother Sarah Boone as they help tend the Homestead gar­den and make but­ter.

Vol­un­teers will of­fer guided tours of the Boone House and the Ber­to­let Log House through­out the event. Can­dle dipping will be avail­able for fam­i­lies to try, and vis­i­tors will wit­ness the hard work of the black­smith. Vol­un­teers will teach chil­dren how to write with a quill pen; after that, chil­dren can ex­pend some en­ergy play­ing with old fash­ioned toys and games. Young and old vis­i­tors will learn all about tex­tile pro­cess­ing, in­clud­ing tak­ing raw wool and flax and turn­ing it into cloth. As part of the demon­stra­tion, a lo­cal sheep shearer will shear the Homestead’s six sheep. Vol­un­teers will spin wool and de­scribe weav­ing in the Oley Val­ley dur­ing the eigh­teenth cen­tury.

Ad­mis­sion for Chil­dren’s Day is $7/adult, $4/chil­dren ages 5-15, un­der 5 are free! Please no pets and no smok­ing. This pro­gram is spon­sored and run by the Friends of the Daniel Boone Homestead. The Daniel Boone Homestead is the birth­place of the famed fron­tiers­man, born in 1734. The Boone House, con­structed in three stages through­out the eigh­teenth cen­tury, is a 10-room stone struc­ture fully fur­nished to the pe­riod and sit­u­ated on 579 acres of rolling coun­try­side.

The Daniel Boone Homestead is lo­cated in Ex­eter Town­ship, half­way be­tween Read­ing and Pottstown, one mile north of Route 422 near Baum­stown.

The Homestead is owned by the Penn­syl­va­nia His­tor­i­cal and Mu­seum Com­mis­sion and daily his­toric

op­er­a­tions are run by the Friends of the Daniel Boone Homestead, a lo­cal, non-
