Fire rips through barn in Oley

The Southern Berks News - - LOCAL NEWS -

OLEY >> A fire that broke out late Monday afternoon, May 1, left a barn in ashes.

Firefighters were called to the scene of a barn fire that was reported on Route 662 at Covered Bridge Road just after 4 p.m. Monday. Fire officials said the fire was fully involved upon arrival and they then called for additional backup.

The blaze engulfed the barn and a nearby car, but firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to homes in the area. Due to wind and the severity of the fire, about 100 firefighters assisted in putting out the blaze. It took crews more than an hour to control the fire.

Officials said the barn was completely destroyed but that nothing valuable had been inside the barn at the time of the fire.

No injuries were reported.

A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
