Berks scholas­tic golf cham­pi­ons

Ex­eter ju­nior Alex Seelig won the BCIAA boys’ golf tour­na­ment cham­pi­onship on Sept. 27 at Black­wood Golf Course with an even-par 105 over the 27-hole event, best­ing run­ner-up Chase Miller of Tulpe­hocken by two strokes.

Seelig shot a 1-un­der 69 in the morn­ing ses­sion, fol­low­ing by a 1-over 36 in the af­ter­noon on the way to the ti­tle.

Other medal­ists in­cluded Berks Catholic’s Nick Fio­ra­vante (third), fol­lowed by Oley Val­ley’s Con­ner Goll­witzer, Muh­len­berg’s Tyler Kipp and Wilson’s Dy­lan Audi in fourth through sixth.

Seelig fin­ished sec­ond in 2016, be­hind only Wyomissing’ Nate Menon. He be­came Ex­eter’s first boys cham­pi­ons since Berks great Chip Lutz’s sec­ond ti­tle in 1972.

The Gov. Mif­flin boys squad won the team cham­pi­onship, nar­rowly edg­ing Berks Catholic. The Mus­tangs won their first team ti­tle since 2002.

Gov. Mif­flin and Berks Catholic shot match­ing five-player scores of 414 but the Mus­tangs held the tiebreaker with their sixth golfer shoot­ing a bet­ter score.

While BC was led by bronze medal­ist Fio­ra­vante, Gov. Mif­flin’s low shooter was Si­mon Max, who shot 9-over 79. Jonas Con­ner and Tris­tan Upde­graff shot 82 while Luke Fa­gley (85) and Evan Kraft (86) rounded out the top 5. Chris­tian Strohl’s 87 was the tie-break­ing score. Girls golf Con­rad Weiser’s Olivia Raihl won her third BCIAA girls golf cham­pi­onship on Sept. 25 at Wil­low Hol­low by shoot­ing an 80.

She was fol­lowed by Ham­burg ju­nior Aly Rentschler and Wyomissing’s Kristy Bell, who both fin­ished two back with 82s.

A Wilson trio fin­ished fourth through sixth with Pey­ton Karas (87), Me­gan Ruff­ing (88) and Rachael Owens (89).

Gov. Mif­flin’s Kel­lie Fink placed 10th with a 100, Berks Catholic’s Hunter Hirneisen was 12th with 101 while Ex­eter’s Jade Strause placed 13th with a 102 and team­mate Ka­te­rina Whit­man placed 14th with a 103 and was the fi­nal qual­i­fier for the District 3 Cham­pi­onships.
