Kutz­town High School stu­dents present ‘Once Upon A Mat­tress’

More than 30 Kutz­town Area School District stu­dents are busy spend­ing their af­ter­noons and evenings re­hears­ing for the 2017 mu­si­cal “Once Upon A Mat­tress,” which will be per­formed in the high school au­di­to­rium in Novem­ber. “Once Upon A Mat­tress” is a fast-paced mu­si­cal com­edy adapted from the fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea.”

The mu­si­cal draws cast mem­bers from the district’s mid­dle and high schools, and fea­tures se­niors and mu­si­cal theater vet­er­ans Olivia Sica as Win­nifred the Woe­be­gone, Asher Cooper as Prince Daunt­less, and Nathan Hay­duk as Sir Harry.

The mu­si­cal is be­ing per­formed un­der the di­rec­tion of Sa­man­tha Clarke, a grad­u­ate of Philadel­phia’s Uni­ver­sity of the Arts.

Ms. Clark serves as a teach­ing artist at Wilson High School and The Yocum In­sti­tute, and teaches and di­rects at Penn State Berks and Mont­gomery County Com­mu­nity Col­lege.

Kutz­town Uni­ver­sity stu­dent and Kutz­town High grad­u­ate Me­gan Lau­denslager is the chore­og­ra­pher, while Kutz­town High School vo­cal di­rec­tor Ju­lianne Micha­lik is the pro­ducer and vo­cal mu­sic di­rec­tor for the show.

Tick­ets for the Kutz­town Area High School pro­duc­tion of Once Upon A Mat­tress will be avail­able be­gin­ning on Oct. 4 by call­ing 610-796-8757 or log­ging on to http://our.show/kutz­townareahigh­school/6213. Tick­ets are $10 for adults and $8 for stu­dents and se­niors over age 62.

Per­for­mances will be at the high school au­di­to­rium on Fri­day, Nov. 17 and Satur­day, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Sun­day, Nov. 19 at 2:30 p.m.
