FBLA hosts Leadership Workshop
Students work together to plan conference
On Sept. 21, Daniel Boone High School hosted the Region 8 Leadership Workshop. As a relatively newly-revived chapter with less than 25 members, it was quite the task to take on. Although small, Daniel Boone is home to two out of three regional officers: Luis Barrales, JR., and Demi Kishbaugh, as well as a full officer team and members ready to work; Trisha Bhatt, Madison Okkerse, Christine Kelly, Ryan Duffy, Corbin Berrolette, Amber Berrolette, Tasia Sherman, Breana McNamara, Alex Bortz, Cole Reinert, and Griffin Adams.
Planning the conference was a daunting task, but the hardest part was rolling with the punches the day of.
“The problem was the projector wasn’t working; we had to call Stage Crew in the middle of the day to help fix it. Our school was very supportive and provided us with all the resources to make this a success,” said student Cole Reinert.
Another challenge included a speaker arriving late due to a car accident. To improvise, our Region President started an ice breaker game. Once she arrived, the speaker Mrs. Kellie Butsack from the Alzheimer’s Association Deleware Valley Chapter gave a presentation on Alzheimer’s Disease, and how students can help. This gave the Daniel Boone Chapter and the rest of the region the ability to learn about the State Service Project for PA FBLA and also get a head start on their State Service Video for the State Conference.
The next activity was a break/Chapter Officer Meeting. Then chapter officers from each school had a meeting about topics such as increasing membership, sharing challenges and solutions, fundraising, and what activities their chapters do. The DB Officers were able to listen to other more established chapters and gather
information to allow them to start building their chapter. In the annex gym, students had the opportunity to meet with local colleges and to speak with area memory care providers,
After, the last speaker was Ms. Dana Watson from Men’s Warehouse with a Dress For Success Seminar. Students learned what to wear for an interview, how to make a good first impression, and interview tips. Her energetic
