Van­dals cause $20,000 worth of dam­age to school

BIRDSBORO >> Van­dals caused ap­prox­i­mately $20,000 worth of dam­age to the for­mer Birdsboro El­e­men­tary Cen­ter ear­lier this month.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, one ju­ve­nile has been iden­ti­fied as a sus­pect af­ter the school was trashed ear­lier this month.

The dam­age in­cluded paint and glue tossed all over the school as well as some flood­ing dam­age.

The van­dals also tore apart class­rooms, halls and suppl clos­ets in ad­di­tion to clog­ging toi­lets with tow­els and leav­ing wa­ter run­ning from faucets.

Po­lice be­lieve more than just the iden­ti­fied sus­pect were in­volved in the van­dal­ism but that the cur­rent sus­pect is not co­op­er­at­ing with po­lice, re­ports said.

The school, owned by Daniel Boone School District, closed per­ma­nently in une as part of the district’s “el­e­men­tary school re­con­fig­u­ra­tion plan.”

School of­fi­cials have been de­bat­ing repairs to the school and fu­ture use of the fa­cil­ity.
