Re­port: Teens caught with drugs at Al­ter­na­tive School

Two teens at Polk County’s Al­ter­na­tive School are fac­ing drug charges, and one a weapons charge af­ter ad­min­is­tra­tors found the items af­ter a search, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

Po­lice Chief Jamie New­some re­ported that ad­min­is­tra­tors called Of­fi­cer Kevin Young from the Cedar­town Po­lice Depart­ment to the school af­ter sus­pected mar­i­juana and a crushed up pill sus­pected to be a con­trolled sub­stance were found on stu­dents Ricky Joseph Brooks and Stephen Sa­muel Blake Corn, both 17.

New­some said a ra­zor blade was also found on Corn in his bill­fold, which also added a weapons charge to his ar­rest.

He said both Brooks and Corn were taken into cus­tody with­out in­ci­dent.

Brooks is charged with pos­ses­sion of mar­i­juana or a con­trolled sub­stance within 1,000 feet of a school and pos­ses­sion of less than an ounce of mar­i­juana. Corn was charged with carry- ing a weapon in a school safety zone, school func­tion or school prop­erty as a li­cense holder, and pos­ses­sion of a con­trolled sub­stance within 1,000 feet of a school.

Corn re­mained in jail as of Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon on a $6,000 bond.

Brooks was re­leased on the same amount of bond.
