In or­der to al­low our em­ploy­ees time off with their fam­i­lies for the hol­i­days, the of­fices of the Polk County Stan­dard Jour­nal will be closed on Christ­mas day and will re-open the fol­low­ing morn­ing on Tues­day, Dec. 26. Reg­u­lar ad­ver­tis­ing dead­lines for the Dec. 27 edi­tion will be this Wed­nes­day, Dec. 20 at 5 p.m., and le­gal and clas­si­fied ad­ver­tis­ing need to be com­pleted and turned in by Thurs­day, Dec. 21 at noon. Thanks for your co­op­er­a­tion with our up­dated pub­lish­ing sched­ule for this week, and we wish ev­ery­one Happy Hol­i­days and a great 2018 ahead.

Make a New Year’s res­o­lu­tion you can keep and make a dif­fer­ence in the life of a child to­day by get­ting in­volved with the Court Ap­pointed Spe­cial Ad­vo­cates of Har­al­son and Polk County. The or­ga­ni­za­tion that uti­lizes vol­un­teers to be an ad­vo­cate of a child in ju­ve­nile court pro­ceed­ings, as well as act­ing as a men­tor for our lo­cal youth. Twice-an­nual mon­i­tor­ing as­sists Keep Polk Beau­ti­ful in mak­ing the com­mu­nity a more beau­ti­ful place, and only takes 30 min­utes. The City of Cedar­town re­turns to busi­ness with their first com­mis­sion meet­ing of the year com­ing up on Mon­day, Jan. 8, 2018 at 6 p.m. in the Com­mis­sion meet­ing room at city hall at 201 East Ave., Cedar­town.
